|
Virginia Commonwealth University's (VCU) School of Business offers a range of graduate degrees in business, including classic and executive Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Accountancy (MAcct) degree, a Master of Taxation (MTax), five Master of Science in Business (MS) degrees, a classic and an executive Master of Science in Information Systems, a Master of Arts in Economics (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in business.
Classes typically meet once a week in the evening. A limited number of classes meet twice a week, either early in the morning, the late afternoon or on weekends. Students proceed at their own pace and a degree may be completed in as little as 12 months, but must take no longer than five years. Master of Business Administration Programs The VCU MBA provides a balance of business theory and practical application. Through a variety of instructional methods, including case study, students learn to solve problems, make decisions, communicate effectively, work in teams and exercise leadership. The program is often recommended for individuals who do not have an undergraduate business degree. Students can choose a general MBA or opt to concentrate in decision sciences, economics, finance, information systems, marketing, real estate and urban land development or human resource management. The fast track executive MBA program is designed for rising executives and professionals with at least six years of management-level experience. Classes are held on Friday afternoons and all day Saturday on alternate weekends, allowing students to maintain full-time professional employment. The program uses a team approach to learning and features seven modules concentrating on the following topics in business: business foundations, organizational culture, analysis and decisions, team building and leadership, global challenges, productivity and innovation, and strategic management. Master of Science in Business The MS degree programs are designed for students who desire more specialized business study. Students may specialize in finance, decision sciences, information systems, global marketing management, human resource management, or real estate valuation.

Founded in 1838, Virginia Commonwealth University is a public institution with an enrollment of more than 29,000. VCU’s Academic Campus and Medical College of Virginia Campus, both located in Richmond, have a combined area of 50.5 acres. Thirty-two of VCU's 151 buildings were built prior to 1900 and 54 are either designated historic landmarks or lie within an historic district.
VCU comprises one college and 12 academic schools that offer 52 baccalaureate, 59 master's and 20 doctoral programs, as well as first professional programs in medicine, dentistry and a doctor of pharmacy program. The university operates the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, the fourth-largest teaching hospital in the United States. The capital of Virginia since 1779, Richmond is a two-hour drive from the Atlantic shore to the east, the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west and Washington, DC to the north. Its Fan District, reputed to be the largest intact community of Victorian buildings in the US, is the home of VCU's academic campus and many theaters, cafes, galleries and museums. Despite its high quality of life, Richmond is one of the most affordable American cities of its size. The city is home to six Fortune 500 companies. It has experienced recent growth in the high-tech and biotech industries and offers a wealth of employment opportunities. History and progress combine to make Richmond a distinctive, cosmopolitan city.

The Center for International Programs provides assistance and information to international students, scholars, faculty, researchers, temporary employees and their dependents. Advising is available to assist with personal, financial, cultural and social adjustment issues and to help guide international students so they can pursue their academic goals successfully. The international student adviser helps students and scholars maintain their non-immigrant-visa status by issuing and processing necessary immigration documents in accordance with the federal government regulations.
The International Student Adviser works with the International Student Union (ISU), the official club for international students. ISU members promote international understanding and awareness through activities on and off campus. International students are encouraged to join and actively participate in this part of their experience at VCU.
